With over 65 years of collective experience in semiconductors, microelectronics, and sensors, this team’s leadership has created a comprehensive set of microelectronic package assembly services for developing products that leverage the advantages of MEMS sensor technology. This team has a proven track record in new product development where they have been responsible for product launches in a variety of industry sectors, including aerospace, automotive, defense, biomedical, and industrial controls.

Matthew Apanius – President and Managing Director
Matthew Apanius is the President and Managing Director of SMART Microsystems. He has commercial MEMS product development experience working with applications that include telecommunications, aerospace, automotive, industrial controls, hand-held displays, biomedical devices, and life science. His work with academic and government research projects include state-change physics in microgravity, anisotropic thermal behavior of nanomaterials, and nanomechanical structures for switches and acoustic wave devices. Prior to launching SMART Microsystems, Matthew was the President of Microfabrication Solutions, Inc., a successful MEMS prototyping company located in Cleveland, Ohio since 2002. Matthew was also a co-founder of a medical device start-up company that utilized microsystem technology for the creation of home-care medical products. He enjoys guest teaching at Case Western Reserve University on topics of entrepreneurship, engineering management, and intellectual property.

William Boyce – Engineering Manager
William Boyce is the Engineering Manager at SMART Microsystems. He is detail-oriented and is a hands-on engineering leader with a wide range of diverse skills from his background in automotive sensing. He has served in senior engineering roles over the last 19 years with accomplishments including: manufactured automotive sensors, leading new product development teams that created over $25M new revenue/year, certified in EIT and Six Sigma Green Belt, industry recognized expert in Al wire bonding, and designed and led metrology lab and machine shop at Sensata. William has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from the University of Rhode Island, and has has been a member of the IMAPS New England Chapter for over 10 years.

Kasey Tamosiunas – Sales Manager
Kasey Tamosiunas joined SMART Microsystems with broad-based product marketing experience in industrial automation technology, and a unique background in sales and contract service. This is the result of spending the majority of his career in a large international automation and engineering firm. His 20 years of experience at Rockwell Automation included product management, marketing, and technology sales. Responsibilities included business development with emphasis on intellectual property licensing and technology transfer in the industrial automation industry as well as managing relationships with small and large companies both domestically and internationally. Prior to joining Rockwell Automation, Kasey designed electrical control systems for automated foundry systems and assisted field service with onsite system installations. Kasey possesses a Diploma in Controls Technology from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute (Toronto, Canada) and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (Electronics) from Cleveland State University. He is a member of the Licensing Executives Society (USA & Canada) and the Cleveland Engineering Society.
